The EU has approved €808 million in new funding from the Just Transition Fund to support Bulgaria’s coal regions – Stara Zagora, Kyustendil, and Pernik – as they shift toward a cleaner and more sustainable economy.
This investment will:

✅ Support SMEs to install renewables and storage systems
✅ Redevelop former mining areas into business zones
✅ Invest in green hydrogen infrastructure and clean transport
